Recently, I picked up a vintage loveseat from a gal that owns an antique/vintage shop. It has some damage from a cat that ripped out the underside straps that hold up the springs (it was in her storage and she was going to have it reupholstered herself, but let me buy it from her). Here's a look:
I think the wood detail is really sweet.
I also picked up a pink chair through craigslist that is newer but old-fashion looking. Here's a look at it:
Notice we got the floors in the semi-finished side of the living space all shiny this weekend?
My dear friend Mary is also going to give me a pink wingback chair (very similar to the craigslist chair...they are both pink and velvety) . I'd like to reupholster them all myself (with a lot of help from Jeff, who has done upholstery in cars and my mom who used to sew her own clothes). The dilemma is color.
Now, I originally planned a sort of citrus-colored theme in my house, but that blue cabinet of mine has me hooked and I have plans for our built-in bookshelf for the same robin's egg blue (more on that when it's done). One thing I can't get out of my head is this post from decor8. Particularly this image (and it took awhile to find it):

That warm gray and red-orange is incredible! I don't know if I want to reupholster all these pieces in these colors, but I love them...and the blood orange color works with my citrus theme. What I'm thinking is that red-orange for the wood on the pieces (it might be difficult and expensive to find upholstery fabric in that color) and a warm gray upholstery fabric.
What do you think? I guess citrus colors and robin's egg blue go well together...but, then I'll have to throw in that school desk and now what? Maybe just keep most things neutral (white walls, some black such as the wood stove, and "wood" floors) with pops of color? Come on guys...I need some ideas! I love all the color, but I don't want it to look like Rainbow Brite's house (does that date me?)!
Well, I have time to mull it over...I have bigger fish to fry (as you can see behind that loveseat). And, as usuall...two steps forward, one step back...our garage has about an inch of mud in it from the thunderstorm yesterday. *Sigh.*

i really love the citrus theme. so fresh feeling!

I LOVE those chairs!! How exciting...and congrats on the new shiny floor! A citrus theme does sound very appealing. I'll put some more thought into and let you know what I think. Oh, and I used to love Rainbow Brite...how fun!

Oh WOW! Love those pieces! I also love that blood orange, grey combo. Then, when you mention neutral with pops of color, that really struck a chord. That is the way that I would like to go. It allows for easy change :)
Gorgeous furniture! How exciting for you! Have fun with it:) Your picks are fantastic!!!
