My first three terrariums are planted! I still have to find the appropriate jar (or somesuch...I found one that fit, but I don't really like the look) for the fourth, but I'm so happy I finally have some that are finished! The look great in a group too (oh, and I'm really glad that I used that white rock...it works out really nicely in my house):
The first one has moss and lichen from tree branches:
I was careful to keep the moss and lichen from touching the glass as much as possible; if I remember correctly, that causes them to brown. There are two distinct types of lichen in this container, the leafier version and the stringy version. There seems to be only one type of moss which looks like the Japanese Star Moss from a Xenotees shirt!
The second one worked out perfectly. Jeff had raked over some moss near the house to clean up some leaves and dislodged a near perfect specimen. I picket it up and it was a bit oval-shaped, but the chunk that was too big had some sort of fuzzy white stuff on it (mold? insect something?), so I broke it off and noticed there was a teeny, tiny snail attached; he's in the terrarium too! Here's a look:
It's that fern-like moss from this post! I definitely wanted to use some of that in one of the terrariums. The snail is in the center, two-thirds of the way down. Here's as close as I could get, but it's not a great picture:
For the third, I used a short dense moss (it looks a bit similar to the first moss). I scraped it off the house and some concrete:
Next...a step-by-step of how I made these! Happy Thursday!
How fun! I like how you used different varieties of moss for each jar. xoxo
