Conceptual Art: Measuring Type

I'm thinking of starting a series on this blog entitled Conceptual Art. It's something that's near and dear to me and I'd love to share some of my finds as well as promote the artists working in this manner. If you recall, Conceptual Art was the first topic I posted about as a guest blogger on Etsy Stalker (I think I may go into more depth with those works here).

First up, is Measuring Type which is a work I spotted on the Swiss Miss blog (I know, it's not my own find, but this finally got me to start this series which I have been wanting to do for awhile). This piece appeals to my long-standing love of text and is by Matt Robinson in collaboration with Tom Wrigglesworth.

"A selection of the most commonly used typefaces were compared for how economical they are with the amount of ink which they use at the same point size. Large scale renditions of the typefaces were drawn out with ballpoint pens, allowing the remaining ink levels to display the ink efficiency of each typeface."

And hey, I just realized that Helvetica is a font choice on Typepad. Either this is new or I hadn't realized it! Yay! Now, if I can just remember to switch to it each time - sheesh!

Anyway, if you know of any great conceptual artists, please let me know....I'd love to look into their work!

A Little Xmas Cheer

I've been getting ready for our trip, so I've been hiding out a bit. Here's a little Xmas cheer for you:

From left to right:

1. My moss terrarium has another wee little mushroom in it!

2. A music "box" that my aunt and uncle gave me when I was a child.

3. The plastic deer I got from my church's rummage sale (with my Peace Doily Painting behind it).

4. A box of candles I got at a local thrift store. I couldn't pass up the packaging, it's all in German and beautiful.

5. My parents got me that book for my first Christmas. We have a tradition in our family to write inside books noting the occasion before we gift them.

6. A thrifted Santa mug. His eyes are rhinestones!

7. My Christmas Cactus. It looks a bit sad as it was attacked by a kitten and then put outside because of it and it was sunburned, so it's recovering. It does have a few buds though, I'm hoping they'll be in bloom when we return!

Extension on Free Shipping!

My free shipping sale was so fun, I've decided to extend it for the holiday season! I may have the shop closed while I'm visiting family for Christmas (December 20 - January 1), but until then the sale is on!
