It was wonderful to wake up to a sale this morning and find out that the reason must have been that it was featured on The Storque! The article is Etsy Finds: Traveling Down the Greenway by iheartmoustaches. It's all about reducing one's eco-footprint. The section that the jar was featured is entitled "Conscious Consumption"- I'm honored.

I found this book at a book exchange recently and had to pick it up because 1. the illustrations 2. the silliness factor (of course, it wasn't silly when the book was published) 3. for inspiration.

I'm always on the lookout for vintage orange enamel for the kitchen at thrift stores because orange is my favorite color. As of last week, I had only found the double boiler, then I spotted this:
I've been looking a heavy-bottomed teapot for sometime, and this is not, but it was just sitting there waiting for me to take it home. It's in amazing condition and the inside is pretty much perfect...at $4.50, how could I resist?
I made another terrarium a couple of weeks ago (and made a twin for Jenny). I had spotted a bunch of clumpy moss at church and just had to go dig some up.
I found the container at a thrift store (Jenny's container as well, they were the same!). I love it's squat self.
I keep inspecting the vessel to see if there are any critters that accidentally got transplanted along with the moss and I found one crawling around inside the lid.
It took some delicate work, but I got him off there and put him outside.
So tiny! It reminds me of last summer....Jenny and I picked a bunch of basil from her garden to make pesto and I found a little snail. Then, of course, I had to inspect all the basil and found at least a dozen little snails. Every time I found one, I would bring it to Boo who was sitting outside at Jenny's patio table and Boo had a little snail zoo going on. It was amazing how quickly they disappeared to go find more food. At the time, we were pretty grossed out about the thought of snail pesto. But, now, we laugh about it. And, Boo was so gentle with the little creatures.
The moss in my established terrarium is growing some lovely shoots and seems to be doing well.
It was difficult (well, impossible) to get a great picture.
Experts - I'm thinking that this moss is happy, but I'm also thinking that it could be possible that it's reaching for light. Any thoughts?

I listed a couple of new pieces today...Moss Jars.
They are like inside-out terrariums!
I'm making them with the gray Kona cotton and the unbleached muslin that I have tea-stained.
The filling is upcycled or re-purposed (term of your choice) that I have washed, of course. The "moss" is needle felted like the Moss for your Wall pieces.
The canning jars are from my stash. The lids and rings are from canning jam last summer (and glued together to make one piece). The lids are sealed with a circle of wool-blend felt for a lovely finish.
The jars don't have to be used as pincushions, they can simply be used as pretty organizers. They can be used in the office for paper clips or tacks, in the craft room for sewing pins or bobbins, in the entry or bedroom for loose change or keys...maybe in the living room for a collection of seashells or acorns.
They're just jam-packed with possibilities of use (pardon the pun, I couldn't help myself)!
I've mentioned more than once on this blog that I love citrus colors. And what better time to be inspired by citrus than winter. It's when most citrus is ripe, and could we manage to get through winter without those cheerful colors of orange, yellow and lime green? I think not.

How could you not be cheerful in the winter with that in your home? I mean citrus growing indoors and a bright lime green cabinet! Well, I'm thinking that I may need to get a kumquat and lime to grow indoors as soon as I can.
If you happen to live in a climate where citrus doesn't thrive out-of-doors (this one is growing in New York), but you have had luck growing it inside, please...let me know! I'd love any tips on the subject.
If you recall, last year, we were visiting family for Easter and I made some candied citrus peel. Well, we're planning a trip for this year as well and I'm hoping to get my hands on some more of my grandmother's citrus and make even more citrus-y treats!
