Stacking Rings

Well, we're home from our trip and I'm adjusting to life as usual. It was wonderful to see family. I was hoping for the Southern California sun, but brought the Oregon rain with me...poo.

So, I've been thinking about stacking rings lately, I'm sure I'm not the only one. I love the idea of mixing and matching and that a collection can be added to and edited over time. Here's a few of my current favorites.

I love the scalloped edge on this Satomi Kawakita ring. It's simple and comes in silver or gold (I prefer silver in rings). I think this would make a nice period at the end of a sentence with the scalloped edge only on one side (or one on each end!). By the way, you can head over to the unruly things blog and see the maker of this ring with loads of stacked rings on her own fingers!

I love the Macha Jewelry Etsy shop...there's loads of great rings...this Tiny Stud Ring silver is just one of them.

This Brass Twig Ring (I like the brass as an alternative to gold and that it's an unusual metal for a ring) is made from a mold of a real twig. I love the texture.

Again, I'm drawn to texture...and this ring is made from recycled silver (and if you love that as I do, you can do a search on Etsy for "recycled silver ring" or gold for that matter). This ring is entitled stardust oxidized signet ring...subtly beautiful.

Quick trip

I'm on an all too quick trip visiting my family this week. We brought the Oregon rain with us, unfortunately. But! It's not supposed to be gloomy all week and Southern California can always use the rain. The shop is still open and all orders will ship after the 28th of March. Now off to spend time with my sis.

Signs of Spring

A couple of weeks ago, Boo and I received a little package that contained some goodies from my mom and sister. In it were basil, zinnia, and wildflower seeds. Boo and I immediately planted two pots of zinnias and a pot of basil (I wanted only one basil because I plan to get some lemon basil and thai basil at a local plant sale). After a few days, the zinnias popped up.

Then I recalled why I keep succulents and not other plants in the house...fungus gnats. Every time I attempt something other than a succulent, they somehow invade. Then I remembered why my succulents don't get them; not only do the fungus gnats like moist conditions, but they can't get into the soil with the porous rock I put as a soil cover. So, I covered the soil with some sand.

So, my fingers are crossed that no fungus gnats appear and I can, once again, grow all sorts of plants indoors (because I have deer to eat them outside...sigh). Since I layered a bit of sand in the zinnia pots, the basil has *just* sprouted in the last few days...they're barely noticeable. So, when the seedlings show their wee leaves, Boo and I will spread a layer of sand around the stems as well.

I do hope the sand will work...I love simple little tricks that make such a difference!

Oh, and PS - terrariums are another good way to keep fungus gnats at bay.

A Simple Lunch

I thought I would share another food-related idea (I know, I know...more food...maybe that's pretty much what I've had time for lately). This reminds me of salad Salade Niçoise and it's easy to make.

It's simply:

1. a bed of spinach leaves

2. a can of tuna (it's a little much, I should have reserved a bit to make a sandwich for Boo later...oh, and line-caught)

3. leftover cooked pasta that had been chilled (I often make some and store it for when Boo would like some) 

4. a handful of olives (yes, the canned black ones...I often have them for nacho-making and such)

5. Annie's Roasted Red Pepper Vinaigrette

6. salt and pepper to taste

Waiting Patiently

My Euphorbia infausta has had buds for at least a couple of months now (seriously). I'm waiting ever so patiently for them to open...and it looks like they will in succession. I watered my succulents yesterday and meant to pop back in to check on them about 15 minutes later to make sure none were standing in water. I forgot. This one had a wee bit of water in the saucer when I finally remembered. Here's hoping I don't find it deflated in a few days.

Update 07/23/11: Now that they are bigger, I'm kinda thinking that they are bud-shaped arms. I was looking forward to blooms...ah well, at least it's a happy plant.
